The Mars Microphone for Mars 2020 is a very simple and exciting experiment, whose primary objective is to achieve a world premiere : retrieve sounds from Mars. The microphone will be piggy-backed on the heir of NASA’s Curisosity : MSL2. It is developed in collaboration with the IRAP Supercam team.

The primary objective of the Mars microphone will be to record the sound generated by its "mother" payload, SuperCam. In addition to this primary objective, it will contribute to basic atmospheric investigation by analysis of the acoustic environment and help put constraints on wind vortex or dust devils properties. Here is the story of the microphone on its long way to Mars through validation tests.

Mars Microphone 2020 is a collaboration between ISAE and IRAP, University of Toulouse.
